Hi, I’m Dr. Carter here at Gateway Chiropractic. Today, I’m going to be discussing three easy lower back stretches that you can do at home.
Hamstring Stretch
Our first stretch is the hamstring stretch. You’re going to start by grabbing a towel and lying directly on your lower back. You will place the towel at the top portion of your foot.
You will start to lean back while keeping your knee extended, coming up to a 90-degree angle. You will hold this position for 30 seconds on each leg for two to three sets.
Now, some of you with tight hamstrings may not be able to come all the way back. That is fine. Over time, that will improve.
Thank you, Destiny.
Piriformis Stretch
Our next stretch is the piriformis stretch. You will lie directly on your back and bend one knee, bringing it to the opposite shoulder.
You will hold this position for 30 seconds on each leg and do two to three sets as well. This is releasing the glute muscles and relaxing your lower back as well.
Cat-Cow Stretch
Our final stretch is the cat-cow stretch. Here, you will begin on all fours, shoulder-width apart.
From here, you will begin by arching your back up, alternating up and then down. That will complete one rep. You can complete 10 to 15 reps for two to three sets.
Thank you, Destiny.
When Lower Back Pain Keeps Returning
All right. Now, if these stretches are helping some, but the lower back pain returns, then that’s a good indication that there’s a deeper problem, and you could greatly benefit from corrective chiropractic care.
